Friends for the Journey are people who have personal experience living with cancer. They serve as role models, companions, educators and advocates to our patients and families of our patients here at Lancaster Cancer Center. Although not professional counselors, Friends will be trained in basic listening skills and are committed to aiding those closer in time to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Friends are people who understand living with a cancer, having “been there”.
Friends for the Journey help patients explore their support system serving as informal counselors, offering patients the opportunity to discuss issues surrounding feelings, attitudes, relationships, and opportunities. The goal of the Friends for the Journey is to help patients to cultivate self-confidence and self-esteem.
